Order 015 - Road Use Regulations - Forest Development
Code of Federal Regulations, the following acts are prohibited on all Forest Development Roads under the jurisdiction of the Black Hills National Forest:

About
Dutchman Campground occupies a prime location in Black Hills National Forest on the northeast shore of Deerfield Reservoir at 5,000 feet elevation. Shaded by Ponderosa pines, the campground features widely spaced sites that provide privacy, with select sites offering expansive views of the lake. Of the three campgrounds in the Deerfield Recreation Area, Dutchman is the most accommodating for RVs and larger rigs. The campground serves as an excellent base for exploring the Black Hills. The 10-mile Deerfield Lake Loop Trail encircles the reservoir and is open to hikers, mountain bikers, and horseback riders, offering scenic views and wildlife watching opportunities. The Deerfield Trail connects the lake to Rapid Creek and Pactola Reservoir, passing historic sites including log flumes, cabins, mines, and old railroad grades. Deerfield Reservoir is a no-wake lake stocked with rainbow trout and supporting native brown trout populations. Black Hills National Forest encompasses nearly 1.25 million acres of rugged terrain derived its name from the Lakota phrase "Paha Sapa," meaning "hills that are black," referring to the dark pine-covered slopes rising above the surrounding prairie. Wildlife is abundant, including bighorn sheep, elk, deer, pronghorn, bald eagles, hawks, osprey, and peregrine falcons. Day trips from the campground include Custer State Park, Crazy Horse Monument, Wind Cave National Park, and Jewel Cave.
Directions
Take Forest Highway 17 (Deerfield Road) northwest from Hill City for approximately 14 miles. Turn right (south) on Forest Service Road 607 and travel 2 miles to the campground.
