About
Handy Springs Campground is an extremely remote primitive campground in the Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest, situated at 6,500 feet elevation along Shady Pass Road. With just a single tent-only site, it offers true solitude for those willing to make the journey. The USFS describes usage as light, making it an ideal spot for backcountry-minded campers seeking quiet. The campground provides basic amenities including a vault toilet, picnic table, and fire ring. There is no potable water on-site; campers must bring their own supply or treat water from nearby sources. No fees are required and no reservations are accepted. Access requires a long drive on forest roads from Lake Chelan.
Directions
From Chelan, travel south on Highway 97A for 3 miles. Turn right onto Southshore Road and go approximately 20 miles to Shady Pass Road #5900. Turn left up the Shady Pass Road, go approximately 18 miles. Handy Springs Campground is on the left.
