About

Handy Springs Campground is a primitive single-site campground located in the Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest within Chelan County. This tent-only site provides basic amenities including a picnic table, fire ring, and vault toilet, making it ideal for campers seeking a simple, backcountry-style experience. The campground operates on a first-come, first-served basis with no reservation system and no camping fees. The campground is situated approximately 20 miles from Highway 97A along Southshore Road, then 18 miles up Shady Pass Road (Forest Road 5900). Water is not provided at the site, so campers must bring their own or be prepared to treat or filter water from nearby natural sources. Due to its remote location and primitive nature, the campground experiences light usage, providing a peaceful setting for those willing to venture off the beaten path. This campground is typically accessible during the summer and early fall months, though exact seasonal dates vary based on snow conditions and road access. Winter closures are common due to snow on Shady Pass Road, and the remote location means the site is not actively maintained during the off-season.
