About

Grouse Mountain Campground is a small, primitive campground located at 4,500 feet elevation in the Chelan Ranger District of Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest. The campground offers four tent sites, each equipped with a fire ring and picnic table, and two vault toilets serve the area. This is a drive-to campground accessed via Shady Pass Road #5900, approximately 30 miles from Chelan. The campground serves as a base for exploring several nearby trails, including Devils Backbone trail, Pot Peak trail, and Angle Peak trail. The area typically experiences light use, providing a quiet backcountry experience. Visitors must be self-sufficient, as no potable water is available and there is no trash service—campers must pack out all garbage. The campground is best suited for tent camping and smaller vehicles. Its high elevation and remote location mean it is typically inaccessible during winter months due to snow. The site was temporarily closed due to the Pomas Fire in summer 2025, but that closure was lifted on October 24, 2025.
