About

Hancock Bend Boat Launch and Recreation Area is part of the Crooked Creek Lake project, located in the rolling hills of western Pennsylvania, approximately 30 miles northeast of Pittsburgh. Built by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and completed in 1940 as a flood control project, Crooked Creek Lake now provides year-round recreational opportunities along its scenic shoreline. The recreation area centers around the Liberty pavilion, which includes picnic tables, charcoal grills, a playground, and horseshoe pits. The facility offers two pavilion rental periods (AM and PM sessions) that can be reserved through Recreation.gov. Vault restrooms are located near the pavilion. The boat launch provides ample trailer parking for boating and waterskiing enthusiasts. Crooked Creek Lake is known for excellent fishing, with anglers catching bass, muskie, sunfish, and crappie. Swimmers can enjoy the lake's sandy peninsula beach. The 141-mile Baker Trail, a long-distance hiking trail through western Pennsylvania, crosses Crooked Creek Lake. Pennsylvania state law requires children under 13 to wear personal flotation devices, and all people on boats less than 16 feet in length and all canoes and kayaks must wear PFDs. Alcoholic beverages are prohibited at this facility.
