Clear Creek State Forest

Open

Open year-round. Campfires are prohibited March 1 through May 25 without authorization from the District Forester, or whenever fire danger is high or extreme. Winter road access is not guaranteed as forest roads remain unplowed.

About

Clear Creek State Forest encompasses 16,716 acres across Jefferson, Clarion, Venango, Forest, and Mercer Counties in northwestern Pennsylvania. The forest offers five designated motorized roadside campsites in the Callen Run Tract, accessible via dirt and gravel roads. These are truly primitive sites with no developed facilities, modern conveniences, or improvements beyond fire rings and pull-in parking areas. The campsites accommodate up to 10 people with equipment lengths up to 50-60 feet. Campers must be self-sufficient: there is no potable water, no electric hookups, no trash disposal, and self-contained toilets must be used. The maximum stay is 7 continuous nights, after which campers must vacate for 48 hours before resuming. The surrounding forest provides exceptional recreation with 77 miles of trails including Clear Creek, Pine Run Loop, Silvis, Trap Run, Bear Town Rocks, and the North Country National Scenic Trail. Hunting and fishing opportunities abound. Winter camping is possible but road access is not guaranteed as forest roads are unplowed.
