About
Gunner Pool Campground offers 27 shady, private campsites along the scenic North Sylamore Creek in the Ozark-St. Francis National Forest. Located within the Sylamore Wildlife Management Area, the campground provides access to diverse outdoor recreation including hiking, fishing, and swimming. Each campsite includes a grill, picnic table, lantern pole, and tent pad, but no electrical or water hookups are available. The campground features flush toilets and drinking water from a hand pump, though water is only available seasonally from April through November.
Access to Gunner Pool requires traveling 3 miles on Forest Service Road 1102, a steep, winding gravel road from Arkansas Highway 14. Due to road conditions, the campground is not recommended for large trailers or RVs. The recreation area serves as a trailhead for the Sylamore Hiking Trail and is located just minutes from Blanchard Springs Caverns. The White and Buffalo Rivers border the east and west sides of the district, offering excellent float fishing and canoeing opportunities.
As the campground is within a wildlife management area, hunting is permitted in season for whitetail deer, wild turkey, black bear, squirrel, and other game, though not within the developed recreation area itself. The campground operates year-round on a first-come, first-served basis with no advance reservations available.
Directions
From Mountain View, take Arkansas 14 west for 14.2 miles, then turn right on Forest Service Road 1102 (gravel) for 3 miles. Not recommended for large trailers or RVs due to steep, winding gravel road.
