About

Buffalo Point Campground is the park's largest and most developed camping facility, offering 108 total sites including 82 drive-in sites with water and electric hookups and 26 walk-in tent sites. The campground is divided into loops A through E, with loops B, C, and D available for advance reservations through Recreation.gov, while loops A and E operate on a first-come, first-served basis. There are also five group sites available that can accommodate 10 to 25 people. Each site includes a fire grate, picnic table, and lantern hook. During the peak season from March 15 through November 14, the campground provides full amenities including flush restrooms, hot showers, potable water, electrical hookups, and a dump station. Some sites can accommodate large RVs, though loops A and E are more suitable for smaller rigs. Sites A6 and D55 are ADA compliant and available on a first-come, first-served basis. From November 15 to March 14, only B Loop remains open with limited winter camping and a vault toilet, with no water, electric, or other amenities available. Buffalo Point sits along the Buffalo National River, one of the few remaining free-flowing rivers in the lower 48 states. The river runs 135 miles through the Arkansas Ozarks, surrounded by lush hardwood forests and open meadows. The campground provides excellent access for kayaking, canoeing, fishing, and hiking. Nearby trails include the Indian Rockhouse Trail, and the historic Rush zinc mining district is within easy reach. The campground was originally developed as Buffalo River State Park in the 1930s by the Civilian Conservation Corps. Maximum stay is 14 consecutive days.
