About

The Brush Creek Work Center Barracks underwent extensive renovation in 2023 and now serves as a comfortable winter recreation rental in the Medicine Bow-Routt National Forest. This all-electric bi-level house was originally built in 1981 for temporary employees and features four bedrooms with two twin beds each, accommodating up to 10 people. The facility includes a small living room with TV, a large modern kitchen and dining area equipped with refrigerator, stove, microwave, and basic utensils, plus two bathrooms with showers and flush toilets. Located at 8,100 feet elevation in the Snowy Range, the barracks receive early autumn snow and provide ideal access to winter recreation. After the Wyoming Highway Department closes Highway 130 for winter, the road becomes a popular snowmobile trail with over 300 miles of groomed and ungroomed routes. The Brush Creek Cross-Country Ski Trails behind the barracks wind through aspen and lodgepole pine stands, with grooming frequency dependent on weather conditions. The old Ryan Park Ski Area nearby offers sledding opportunities. The parking area around the cabin is plowed regularly, though walkways and doors are not shoveled.
