About
Lower Virginia Creek Primitive Campground offers rustic, minimally developed camping in a beautiful Jeffrey pine forest setting at 9,100 feet elevation along Virginia Creek. This free, first-come, first-served campground provides approximately 22 primitive sites with fire rings and bear boxes. The campground can accommodate various camping styles, with several sites large enough for trailers and motorhomes. Located in the Bridgeport Ranger District of Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest, the campground serves as a base for exploring the Virginia Lakes area. Recreation opportunities include fishing in Virginia Creek, day hiking, horseback riding, OHV riding, and hunting. The high elevation and remote location provide a true backcountry experience. Campers must be self-sufficient: there is no potable water, no trash service (pack out all trash), and only vault toilets are available. A free California Camp Fire Permit is required for all campfires, barbecues, and portable stove use. Dogs must be leashed. The campground operates seasonally from late May through mid-October, weather and snow conditions permitting.
