About

West Virginia Creek Campground offers a rustic camping experience in the Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest, accessible via Virginia Lakes Road south of Bridgeport. This primitive, no-fee campground is situated in a Jeffrey pine forest at high elevation, providing a peaceful setting for self-sufficient campers. The area experiences heavy usage during the summer season. The campground provides vault toilets and fire rings at campsites, but lacks running water and trash service. Campers must bring adequate water supplies and pack out all trash. A free California Camp Fire Permit is required for any fire use, including campfires, barbecues, and portable stoves. Dogs must be kept on leash at the campground. The high-elevation location offers access to the scenic Virginia Lakes area with opportunities for hiking, fishing, and exploring the surrounding national forest. Due to snow and weather conditions at this elevation, the campground is only accessible seasonally. The remote, primitive nature of this campground makes it ideal for experienced campers seeking a quiet, undeveloped camping experience.

Directions

From Bridgeport, travel south on US-395 for 13 miles. Turn right onto Virginia Lakes Road and go 4.7 miles, then turn left into the campground.
