West Virginia Creek Campground

Currently closed for the season. Typically opens late May through mid-October, depending on weather and road conditions. Food storage restrictions are in effect when open.

About

Upper Virginia Creek Primitive Campground is a free dispersed-style camping area located at 9,200 feet elevation in the Bridgeport Ranger District of the Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest. Set in a Jeffrey Pine forest along Virginia Lakes Road, the campground provides rustic sites with fire rings and access to vault toilets. No potable water is available, and there is no trash service, requiring campers to bring adequate water supplies and pack out all refuse. The campground operates seasonally from late May through mid-October, depending on weather and road conditions. Dogs are permitted but must remain on leash. Due to tight turns on the access road, trailers longer than 25 feet are not recommended. A free California Campfire Permit is required for any campfire or barbecue use. The area offers excellent recreation opportunities including hiking to the Virginia Lakes and access to the Hoover Wilderness, stream fishing, and OHV riding on designated roads. Food storage requirements are in effect to protect wildlife and reduce bear encounters.

Directions

From Bridgeport, drive south on US-395 for 13 miles. Turn right onto Virginia Lakes Road and continue 4.7 miles. Turn left into the campground.
