About
Trumbull Lake Campground is nestled at 9,980 feet elevation on the banks of its scenic 100-acre namesake lake, surrounded by towering peaks and glacier-carved cirques. The campground sits within a dense lodgepole pine forest that provides ample shade, with aspens and summer wildflowers dotting the landscape. This is one of ten alpine lakes in the Virginia Lakes area, offering exceptional mountain scenery and outdoor recreation. The lake provides excellent fishing opportunities for rainbow, brown, and brook trout, along with non-motorized boating and canoeing. The campground serves as a gateway to the nearby Virginia Lakes area and offers hiking and horseback riding access to the adjacent Hoover Wilderness and Yosemite National Park via the Virginia Lakes Trail. The area experiences heavy use during the summer season. The campground features several single-family sites, a few double sites, and one triple site, all equipped with picnic tables, fire rings with grills, and bear boxes for food storage. Vault toilets, potable water from hand pumps, and garbage/recycling services are provided. A campground host is on-site during the operating season, and firewood is available for purchase. Roads and parking spurs are dirt. Reservations are available during peak season mid-May through early September via Recreation.gov.
Directions
From Bridgeport, travel approximately 12 miles south on Highway 395 and turn right at Conway Summit onto Virginia Lakes Road. Continue approximately 6 miles on Virginia Lakes Road; the campground is on the right side of the road.
