About

Grayson Highlands State Park sits at elevations above 4,500 feet in the Mount Rogers highlands of southwest Virginia, offering two rentable picnic shelters for group gatherings. The park is known for its wild ponies, alpine-like meadows, and access to the Appalachian Trail. Shelter One accommodates up to 100 guests and includes grills, picnic tables, a water fountain, and an electric hookup. Shelter Two, known as The Barn, can hold 100 people under cover with space for an additional 100 around the shelter when a special permit is obtained. Both shelters provide access to park restroom facilities. The park features a visitor center with a gift shop offering camping supplies, snacks, and local goods. The surrounding area includes access to over 9,000 hiking trail miles connecting to the Mount Rogers National Recreation Area and Appalachian Trail.
