About
Chestnut Hollow Horse Campground serves as the dedicated equestrian camping area at Grayson Highlands State Park, Virginia's gateway to the state's highest elevations. The campground provides 24 campsites equipped with 20, 30, and 50-amp electric service along with water hookups to accommodate horse trailers. Horse stalls are available in three configurations: 20 wide covered stalls (approximately 8x10 feet with park-provided sawdust), 5 wide open stalls (8x10 feet), and 19 smaller open stalls (5x8 feet). During full-service season from May through October, campers have access to a bathhouse with showers, potable water, dump station, and a camp store for supplies. Each campsite includes a fire ring, picnic table, and grill. Primitive camping operates during March, April, and November with porta-johns only and no water service. The campground closes from the first Monday in December through the first Friday in March. Reservations for Chestnut Hollow can only be made by calling 1-800-933-PARK. Equestrian campers receive booking priority, while non-equestrian campers may reserve beginning 30 days prior to arrival. Virginia state law requires all visitors to carry a negative Coggins report for each horse brought to the park.
