About

Grandview Campground is nestled in low hills covered with pinyon and juniper at 8,600 feet elevation in the White Mountains region of Inyo National Forest. The campground features 23 sites arranged on two loop roads, with most sites offering flat, sandy terrain and ample shade. Each site includes a table, fire ring, and parking for one or two vehicles. A large open area in the middle of the campground provides exceptional views of the night sky, making this a popular destination for stargazers and astronomy groups thanks to minimal light pollution and high elevation. The campground serves as the nearest camping option to the Ancient Bristlecone Pine Forest, with Schulman Grove just 5 miles away. Access via Highway 168 and White Mountain Road requires caution, as the road is narrow, steep, and includes single-lane sections with limited visibility. This remote location demands self-sufficiency: no water is available on-site, cell coverage is limited, and the nearest services (food, water, fuel) are in Big Pine, approximately 17 miles away. Campers are asked to minimize generator and light use to preserve the dark sky experience for all visitors.

Directions

From Big Pine, drive east on Highway 168 for approximately 12 miles. Turn left on White Mountain Road and continue 5 miles. The campground is on the left. Highway 168 is narrow and steep with single-lane sections requiring caution for RVs and large vehicles.
