About
Grandview Campground is nestled in the White Mountains at 8,600 feet elevation, surrounded by pinyon and juniper woodlands. A large open area in the center of the campground provides unobstructed views of the night sky, making this a popular destination for amateur astronomers and stargazing groups. Campers are encouraged to minimize generator use and artificial lighting so everyone can enjoy the dark skies. The campground offers 23 sites distributed across two loop roads. Most sites are flat and sandy with ample natural shade. Each site includes a picnic table, fire ring, and parking space for one or two vehicles. This is a primitive campground with vault toilets but no potable water, so campers must bring all water they need. Grandview serves as the nearest campground to the Ancient Bristlecone Pine Forest, with Schulman Grove just 5 miles away. The area is remote with no cell service, and the nearest services for food, water, or fuel are in Big Pine. Access via Highway 168 is narrow and steep with a single-lane section requiring caution for larger vehicles.
Directions
From Big Pine, go east on Highway 168 approximately 12 miles. Turn left on White Mountain Road and drive 5 miles. The campground is on the left. Highway 168 is narrow and steep with a single-lane section; uphill traffic has the right of way but be prepared to back up to the last wide spot.
