Special Weather Statement issued January 19 at 7:13AM EST by NWS Wilmington OH

7:13 AM — 12:00 PM

Snow showers associated with an arctic front are moving through this morning, providing a quick accumulation of snowfall. With wind gusts between 30 and 40 mph, the snow showers combined with blowing snow are reducing visibility and creating challenging travel conditions. These conditions are most impactful on roads that are more rural and are aligned from north to south. Even after the snow ends, elevated winds will continue to blow snow into the early afternoon. Use caution and allow for extra time to reach your destination.

About

Grand Lake St. Marys State Park offers 8 reservable picnic shelters situated in scenic areas around the lake, with most located in the East Bank/Villanova area. These shelters are equipped with picnic tables, fireplaces, and restroom access, making them suitable for family reunions, gatherings, and special events. The park surrounds Ohio's largest inland lake, originally constructed as a feeder reservoir for the Miami-Erie Canal and once recognized as the world's largest man-made reservoir. The park is open year-round for recreation including boating, fishing, bird watching, and picnicking. Multiple public swimming beaches, boat ramps, and trails provide additional activities. Grand Lake lies along a major bird migration route, attracting waterfowl including Canada geese, ducks, swans, egrets, herons, and ospreys. The park also features a campground with over 200 sites, a camp store, and various recreational amenities including basketball and volleyball courts.
