Special Weather Statement issued January 19 at 7:13AM EST by NWS Wilmington OH

7:13 AM — 12:00 PM

Snow showers associated with an arctic front are moving through this morning, providing a quick accumulation of snowfall. With wind gusts between 30 and 40 mph, the snow showers combined with blowing snow are reducing visibility and creating challenging travel conditions. These conditions are most impactful on roads that are more rural and are aligned from north to south. Even after the snow ends, elevated winds will continue to blow snow into the early afternoon. Use caution and allow for extra time to reach your destination.

About

Lake Loramie State Park Campground is situated on Lake Loramie, a historic reservoir originally constructed in 1844-45 for the Miami-Erie Canal system. The campground offers a mix of electric and non-electric sites, with many shaded waterfront locations providing direct access to the 1,655-acre lake. Modern facilities include flush toilets, showers, and a dump station for camper convenience. The lake operates as a no-wake zone except for a designated speed zone at the west end, making it ideal for peaceful boating and paddling. Registered campers can rent canoes and kayaks from the camp office. Fishing enthusiasts will find good catches of crappie, bluegill, channel catfish, bullheads, carp, and largemouth bass, with four fishing piers located throughout the park. Six launch ramps provide easy water access. Beyond camping, the park features a 600-foot sandy swimming beach, an 18-hole disc golf course, over 8 miles of hiking trails including a portion of the Buckeye Trail, and 15 picnic areas around the lake. The new Welcome Center, opened in September 2025, offers displays tracing the area's history from the Ice Age through canal-era development. Winter activities include ice fishing, sledding, and snowmobiling when conditions permit.
