About
Gold Rush Campground and Trailhead is a small, forested campground situated in a narrow canyon bottom along a stream in the Lolo National Forest, northwest Montana. At an elevation of 3,000 feet, the campground encompasses 3 acres and features 6 campsites, each with a picnic table and fire ring. The shaded, canyon setting provides a peaceful atmosphere with light usage. The campground serves as the trailhead for Gold Rush Trail Number 562, making it an ideal base for hikers exploring the area. The site is accessible via Dry Creek Road #352, approximately 8 miles from Thompson Falls following Prospect Creek Road and Cherry Creek Road. This remote location offers a quiet camping experience in the national forest. Operating year-round on a first-come, first-served basis with no fees, the campground is accessible depending on snow conditions. While vault toilets are available during the main season, the restroom facility closes on October 31 and remains closed through the winter months. No potable water is available at the site, so campers must bring their own water supply.
Directions
From Thompson Falls, travel west on the Prospect Creek Road for 2 miles. Turn left (east) on the Cherry Creek Road. Turn right (south) on the Dry Creek Road #352 for 6 miles. Campground is on the right (west) side close to the 6-mile marker.
