About

Copper King Campground occupies a scenic stretch of moist cedar forest along the Thompson River in Lolo National Forest. The setting is quintessential western Montana river bottom, with old-growth cedars providing shade and the river offering fishing for adventurous anglers. Expect mosquitoes in June and July due to the damp riparian environment. This is a primitive, free campground operating on a first-come, first-served basis. Each site includes a picnic table and fire ring, and vault toilets are available. Campers must bring their own drinking water as none is provided. Bear country protocols apply, so proper food storage is required. Access is limited. The campground road is not suitable for long vehicles or trailers, making this a better choice for tent campers, truck campers, or small vans. From Thompson Falls, take Highway 200 east and turn north onto the paved Thompson River Road.

Directions

From Thompson Falls, travel east on Highway 200. Turn left (north) onto the paved Thompson River Road. Do not take the graveled road.
