About
Copper King Campground is a small, primitive camping area nestled in a moist river bottom cedar forest along the Thompson River in the Lolo National Forest. Located at 2,700 feet elevation, the campground encompasses just 2 acres and offers 5 individual campsites plus one group site, all available on a first-come, first-served basis with no fees required. Each campsite is equipped with a picnic table and fire ring. The campground has vault toilets but no potable water, so campers must bring their own drinking water. The lush cedar forest environment can be buggy during June and July, so insect repellent is recommended. The adjacent Thompson River offers fishing opportunities for anglers. Access considerations are important: the campground road is not suitable for long vehicles or trailers, making this destination better suited for smaller RVs, truck campers, and tent camping. The campground is located along the paved Thompson River Road north of Highway 200. Bear safety and food storage requirements are in effect, and campers should follow proper bear country protocols.
Directions
From the town of Thompson Falls, travel east on State Highway 200. Turn left (north) onto the paved Thompson River Road (do not take the graveled road). The campground is located along this road.
