Winds gusting as high as 40 mph. * WHERE...I-90 Lookout Pass to Haugan, Highway 200 Thompson Falls to Plains, Highway 200 Trout Creek to Heron, and Evaro Hill. * WHEN...Until midnight MDT tonight. * IMPACTS...For MODERATE winter weather impacts, expect disruptions to normal activities. Hazardous traveling conditions. Use extra caution while driving. Closures and disruptions to infrastructure may occur. Wet, heavy snow, and winds could cause tree damage. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Intense snow squalls are expected this afternoon through evening causing periods of very heavy snow, gusty winds, and icy conditions.
About
Thompson Falls State Park occupies 36 acres along the scenic Clark Fork River, approximately one mile northwest of Thompson Falls in Sanders County, Montana. Set at an elevation of 2,362 feet, the park is characterized by mature mixed pine forests that provide abundant shade and create a tranquil camping atmosphere. The campground offers 18 campsites with a maximum trailer length of 30 feet, accommodating both RV and tent campers. The park features an improved family fishing pond with an accessible fishing pier, new picnic shelter, and parking facilities. The recently expanded non-motorized Thompson Falls Trail runs along the river and connects to the Highway 200 trail into town, offering scenic walks through the forest and along the riverbank. A boat launch provides access to the Clark Fork River for fishing and boating enthusiasts, with pike and bass being the most common catches. The park also includes a beach area for summer swimming. Situated between the Kaniksu and Lolo National Forests, Thompson Falls State Park serves as an excellent base for exploring thousands of acres of public lands in the rugged and beautiful Clark Fork Valley. The park offers a range of recreational opportunities including wildlife viewing, bird watching, photography, and simply relaxing in a shaded riverside setting.
