About

Gaggs Camp offers a peaceful, primitive camping experience along Sand Creek in the Sierra National Forest. The campground sits in a large sandy clearing with some shaded areas, providing a more open feel than many forested sites. Each campsite is equipped with a picnic table and fire ring for cooking and warmth during cooler mountain evenings. The campground provides basic amenities including vault toilets and garbage bins at the entrance. No potable water is available on-site, so campers must bring an adequate supply of drinking water. This is bear country, and all food must be stored properly in bear-resistant containers or vehicles. Access to Gaggs Camp requires traveling Central Camp Road (6S42), an unimproved forest road that is not maintained for low-clearance vehicles. Large trailers and motorhomes are not recommended due to road conditions and site configurations. The campground sees light usage, making it a good option for those seeking solitude away from the busier Bass Lake recreation area.

Directions

Take Highway 41 north from Fresno through Oakhurst to Road 222. Turn right on Road 222 and travel to the east end of Bass Lake. Turn left onto Central Camp Road (6S42) and travel approximately 7 miles to the campground turnoff.
