About
Chilkoot Campground is named for the creek that runs through the property, providing a pleasant backdrop for camping in the Sierra National Forest. Located at approximately 4,600 feet elevation, the campground stays comfortable even during hot summer days. A grove of Ponderosa pine, fir, and cedar trees provides ample shade throughout the 27-site campground. The facility accommodates both tent and RV camping, though some sites are located on slopes and are not suitable for tents while others are designated tent-only. Each site features a gravel parking spur, picnic table, and fire ring. This is a rustic campground with vault toilets and a camp host but no potable water, so campers must bring their own water supply. Food storage boxes are provided for bear country protocols. Bass Lake, a popular recreation area offering motorized and non-motorized boating, fishing, swimming, and water skiing, is just a few miles away. Anglers can also fish Chilkoot Creek for channel catfish, sucker, and brown trout. Yosemite National Park is reachable in under an hour, and the South Fork of the Merced River nearby is popular for whitewater rafting.
