About

Frisco Campground is situated within Cape Hatteras National Seashore on Hatteras Island, near the village of Frisco on the Outer Banks of North Carolina. With 127 sites, the campground is located west of the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse and features unique rolling topography with elevated dunes that afford ocean views from select campsites. Dense vegetation creates a sense of privacy not found at other campgrounds in the seashore. The campground provides modern amenities including restrooms with flush toilets, potable water, and unheated outdoor showers. Each campsite comes equipped with a paved parking pad, picnic table, and charcoal grill. Wooden boardwalks make it easy for campers to access the beach for surfing, swimming, and fishing. An off-road vehicle ramp at the campground entrance provides beach driving access for those with a Cape Hatteras ORV permit. RVs and trailers up to 40 feet are accommodated, though there are no hookups. The campground is within a short drive of the historic Cape Hatteras Lighthouse, the tallest brick lighthouse in the country, which famously was moved 2,900 feet to its current location in 1999. At night, campers can see the sweeping beacon of the lighthouse from the campground. The location provides access to fishing, beachcombing, biking, kayaking, and other coastal activities typical of the Outer Banks.

Directions

From the north: Take US-158 East to Nags Head, then NC-12 South through Rodanthe, Waves, Salvo, Avon, and Buxton. In Frisco, turn left on Billy Mitchell Road and proceed to the campground. From the west: Take US-64 East to Nags Head, then NC-12 South. From the south: Take the free Ocracoke to Hatteras ferry, then NC-12 North to Frisco.
