Ocracoke Campground

Ocracoke Campground is located on the southern end of Cape Hatteras National Seashore, on the barrier island of Ocracoke. The campground is positioned on the ocean side of NC-12, about three miles east of Ocracoke Village, with beach access via boardwalks over the protective dunes. The 136 sites are spread across four loops (A, B, C, D) on flat, sandy terrain with no shade trees. Each site includes a paved parking pad, picnic table, and charcoal grill. Facilities include modern bathhouses with flush toilets and potable water, plus unheated outdoor showers available year-round. A dump and water fill station is located across the highway. There are no utility hookups at any site. The campground accommodates RVs and trailers up to 40 feet, though larger rigs over 25 feet may need to use auxiliary parking for a second vehicle. Two ADA-accessible sites are available near the entrance with accessible paths to comfort stations. Ocracoke Island requires ferry access from Hatteras Island to the north (free) or from the mainland via Cedar Island or Swan Quarter (reservations recommended during peak season). Ocracoke Village, a few miles west, offers restaurants, grocery stores, a gas station, and tackle shops. Mosquitoes and biting insects are prevalent in summer; insect repellent is strongly recommended. The sandy soil requires extra-long tent stakes.

Directions

Located off NC-12, three miles east of Ocracoke Village and ten miles west of the Hatteras Inlet ferry terminal. Ocracoke Island is accessible only by ferry: free ferry from Hatteras Island to the north, or toll ferries from Cedar Island or Swan Quarter on the mainland (reservations recommended during peak season).
