FRENCH GULCH
Open year-round on a first-come, first-served basis. No fee required. Road access may be limited during winter due to snow conditions.
About
French Gulch Campground serves as a convenient base camp for exploring the Red River Ranger District in the Nez Perce-Clearwater National Forests. This small, free campground features just two campsites at 4,210 feet elevation along the Highway 14 Corridor. French Gulch Creek flows through the campground, and the Red River is nearby for fishing opportunities. The site offers ample parking space despite its small footprint. However, facilities are primitive: only a vault toilet is available. Campers must bring their own drinking water and pack out all trash. The campground is located approximately 11 miles south of State Highway 14 on Red River-Dixie Road #222. While officially open year-round, winter snow may make access difficult or impossible during certain months.
Directions
From State Highway 14, turn south on Red River-Dixie Road #222. Follow Road #222 approximately 11 miles to French Gulch Campground on the left (east).
