French Gulch Campground is a rustic, no-fee camping area located along the Red River corridor in the Nez Perce-Clearwater National Forests. The campground features just two spacious campsites with a vault toilet and plenty of parking, making it an ideal base camp for day trips throughout the Red River Ranger District. French Gulch Creek flows through the campground, adding to the peaceful setting. The campground provides convenient access to Red River for fishing opportunities. Located at 4,210 feet elevation along Red River-Dixie Road, the site is accessed via State Highway 14. The campground operates on a first-come, first-served basis with no reservations or fees required. This is a pack-in, pack-out site with no garbage service, water, or other amenities beyond the vault toilet. The remote location and minimal development appeal to campers seeking a quiet, primitive camping experience in the Idaho backcountry.
Directions
From State Highway 14, turn south on Red River-Dixie Road (Forest Road 222). Follow Road 222 approximately 11 miles to French Gulch Campground on the left.
