About

Five Mile Campground offers a quiet, primitive camping experience in the tall timber of the Nez Perce-Clearwater National Forests. Located at 4,480 feet elevation along the Highway 14 corridor near Kamiah, Idaho, this free campground is a popular destination for families seeking accessible outdoor recreation without the crowds of more developed sites. The campground sits near Five Mile Pond, which provides opportunities for fishing and swimming, while a creek flows directly through the camping area. Easy access to Crooked River adds to the appeal for anglers. Each campsite includes a fire ring. Vault toilets are available, but there is no potable water on site. Campers must filter or treat water from nearby sources and pack out all trash. While officially open year-round, winter access depends on snow conditions as the road may become impassable. The campground operates on a first-come, first-served basis with no reservations or fees required.

Directions

From State Highway 14, turn south on Crooked River Road #233 and travel approximately 10.5 miles to the campground on the right.
