Ditch Creek Campground
Open year-round, first-come first-served. Road access may be impassable during winter due to snow. No fees, no reservations. Campers must bring their own water and pack out all trash.
About
Ditch Creek Campground sits in an open meadow setting at 4,500 feet elevation in the Nez Perce-Clearwater National Forests. The campground's sparse tree cover makes it an excellent spot for sun-seekers and stargazers. Access is via the Red River-Dixie Road corridor, approximately 3 miles east of the former Red River Ranger Station on Road #234. This is a primitive, free campground with basic amenities including vault toilets and picnic tables at each site. There is no potable water on site; campers must treat or filter water from nearby sources. Pack-it-in, pack-it-out rules apply as there is no trash service. The campground serves as the trailhead for Ditch Creek Trail #507, offering day hiking opportunities into the surrounding forest. The campground is technically open year-round but access depends on road conditions. Snow typically closes the access roads during winter months, making spring through fall the practical camping season. No reservations are required or accepted.
