About

Walker Cabin sits nestled among trees at 4,500 feet elevation near the northern edge of Gospel-Hump Wilderness in the Nez Perce-Clearwater National Forests. Originally built around 1930 as a summer home, it was purchased by Jerry and Helen Walker in 1967 and later donated to the U.S. Forest Service in the 1980s for public recreational use. The cabin has two bedrooms with two single beds each, accommodating up to four guests. The living room features a wood-insert fireplace, and the kitchen is equipped with a wood cook stove. A vault toilet is located in a separate building outside. There is no running water, electricity, or cellphone service. Guests must bring their own water supply, cookware, utensils, bedding, and lighting. Crooked River is a popular area for hiking, trout fishing, hunting, snowmobiling, and cross-country skiing. A hiking trail begins behind the cabin, and nearby trails lead to Orogrande Summit, Buffalo Hump, and Gospel Hump. Several lakes are within a 3-mile radius. The historic ghost town of Orogrande is less than a mile away.

From State Highway 14, turn south on Crooked River Road #233 and proceed approximately 8 miles to the cabin on the right.
