About
Flint Creek Trailhead (designated as "American River" campground on the Forest Map) is a primitive backcountry camping area in Idaho's Nez Perce-Clearwater National Forests. Situated at 4,240 feet elevation along Flint Creek, the site is primarily designed for equestrian users accessing Flint Creek Trail #510 and the surrounding backcountry. The trailhead offers basic amenities including camp pads, fire rings, a vault toilet, hitching rails, a stock loading ramp, and a meat pole for hunters. Flint Creek runs adjacent to the campsite, providing water that must be filtered or treated before drinking. There is no potable water on site. This trail sees most of its use from horseback riders during big game hunting season. Trout fishing opportunities exist in the narrow meadows 1-2 miles upstream from the campsite. The site operates first-come, first-served with no fees or reservations required.
