The Delaware Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control has issued a code orange air quality alert Wednesday for New Castle County. A code orange air quality alert means that air pollution concentrations within the region may become unhealthy for sensitive groups. Sensitive groups include children...people suffering from asthma... heart disease or other lung diseases...and the elderly. About
Fox Point State Park occupies 93 acres along the Delaware River near Wilmington, Delaware. The park sits on remediated land once used as rail yard fill by the Pennsylvania Railroad, now transformed into a scenic day-use area. Visitors can watch enormous cargo ships navigate one of the East Coast's busiest ports while spotting three states: Pennsylvania to the north, New Jersey to the east, and Delaware underfoot. The park features paved, accessible trails ideal for biking and walking, with views of passing trains and ships. Facilities include two rentable pavilions, a popular multi-age playground overlooking the river, volleyball courts, horseshoe pits, and picnic areas. The park serves as the northern terminus of the Coastal Heritage Greenway and lies along the Atlantic Flyway, making it excellent for birdwatching during migration seasons. Fox Point State Park is a day-use facility only. No overnight camping, tent sites, RV sites, or other overnight accommodations are available. The Reserve America entries for this park are for pavilion rentals only. For camping in Delaware, visitors should look to Cape Henlopen, Delaware Seashore, Killens Pond, Lums Pond, or Trap Pond State Parks.
Directions
From I-495 south, take exit #4B Edgemoor Road. At the top of the ramp, bear right onto Edgemoor Road. At the first intersection, turn left onto Hay Road. The park entrance is 0.4 miles straight ahead.
