About

Fox Point State Park occupies 93 acres along the Delaware River in New Castle County, where nature and commerce intersect. Positioned near one of the busiest ports on the east coast, visitors can watch enormous cargo ships, freight trains, and trucks while also observing the robust wildlife thriving along the river. The park offers clear views extending to Philadelphia and the Commodore Barry Bridge to the north and the Delaware Memorial Bridge to the south. The park's history is one of environmental redemption. In the mid-1900s, the Pennsylvania Railroad began filling the riverbank to create industrial land. Environmentalist S. Marston Fox led a decades-long battle to stop the filling and protect the shoreline. Though he died in 1982 before seeing his vision realized, the Fox Point Civic Association continued his work. The contaminated site underwent extensive remediation using a cap system, and Fox Point State Park finally opened in 1995, named in honor of the man who fought to save it. Today the park features the accessible, paved Riverview Trail for walking and biking with river views, a community-favorite multi-structure playground, two reservable pavilions for gatherings, volleyball courts, and horseshoe pits. Fox Point serves as the northern terminus of the 90-mile Coastal Heritage Greenway that stretches to Cape Henlopen State Park. The park is open daily from 8:00 AM to sunset and is managed by Bellevue State Park. No overnight camping is available at this day-use facility.
