About

Brandywine Creek State Park provides primitive overnight camping exclusively for organized youth groups such as Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, and similar organizations. The park does not offer individual or family campsites. Two group camping areas are available: the Tulip Tree Picnic Area accommodating up to 75 people, and the Hawk Watch Pavilion accommodating up to 100 people. The camping areas consist of open fields with small pavilions, flagpoles, and large fire rings, surrounded by accessible wooded areas with picnic tables and individual campfire rings. The 933-acre park sits in Delaware's Piedmont region where gentle slopes, rolling hills, and lush forest converge. A highlight is Tulip Tree Woods, the first designated old-growth forest in Delaware, featuring towering tulip poplars over 190 years old. The park maintains 14 miles of trails for hiking and nature observation, and the Hawk Watch area provides excellent vantage points for viewing migrating raptors in autumn. Restrooms near the Hawk Watch Pavilion operate from April 1 through October 31, with portable toilets available year-round. Groups must bring their own water supply as potable water is not readily available at the camping areas. Trash removal is included with group camping reservations. Reservations are required and can be made through the Delaware State Parks reservation system.
