About
Hickey Gap Campground is a hidden gem nestled alongside the sparkling Mill Creek trout stream in the Cohutta Wildlife Management Area within the Chattahoochee-Oconee National Forest. Named after the Hickey family who once resided in the area, this small, primitive campground offers five shaded campsites in a peaceful forest setting just east of the community of Crandall, Georgia. The campground operates on a first-come, first-served basis with no fees or reservations required. Each site is equipped with a tent pad, picnic table, fire ring, and lantern pole. A vault toilet is available, but there is no potable water on-site, so campers must bring their own supply. The campground is limited to recreational vehicles less than 24 feet due to road and site access constraints, and each site accommodates a maximum of two vehicles. Hickey Gap serves as an excellent base for outdoor recreation, including trout fishing in Mill Creek, mountain biking, and day hiking. The location within the Cohutta Wildlife Management Area provides opportunities for wildlife viewing and immersion in Georgia's mountain wilderness. Quiet hours are observed from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m., maintaining the campground's tranquil atmosphere.
