About

Hickey Gap Campground is a rustic camping area nestled along the banks of Mill Creek, a clear mountain trout stream in northwest Georgia's Cohutta Wildlife Management Area. The campground takes its name from the Hickey family who once lived in this remote corner of Murray County, just east of the community of Crandall. This primitive Forest Service campground provides a genuine backcountry experience with minimal development. Campers should come prepared to be self-sufficient as there is no potable water available on site. Each site features a tent pad where tents must be placed, and standard campground amenities typical of developed USFS campgrounds in this forest. The location makes an excellent basecamp for exploring the surrounding Cohutta Wilderness and WMA. Mill Creek offers stream fishing opportunities, while nearby trails provide access to hiking and mountain biking. The campground enforces quiet hours from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. and prohibits alcohol. Sites are limited to two vehicles each, and the narrow forest road makes it unsuitable for large RVs or trailers over 24 feet.
