Fort Kaskaskia State Historic Site sits on a bluff above the confluence of the Kaskaskia and Mississippi Rivers, preserving the location of an 18th-century French fort that played a significant role in early American history. The campground offers a mix of electric and primitive sites spread across two areas: a primitive loop to the northwest and an electric loop (Class A sites) to the northeast. The 32 electric sites include grass pads and paved sites, with sites 25-29 designated as walk-in only. Two ADA-accessible sites (22 and 24) feature concrete pads with sidewalk access to vault toilets. The campground operates year-round with 24/7 access. Day-use areas include picnic shelters with tables and grills, playground equipment, and a footpath connecting to the nearby Pierre Menard Home State Historic Site. Reservations for most electric sites can be made through ExploreMoreIL or by calling 866-716-6550 at least three days in advance. Walk-in camping is available for sites 25-29 and all primitive sites on a cash/check basis. A weekend camp host is typically present May through October, and a self-check-in iron host station is available.
