About

Randolph County State Recreation Area sits in the rolling hill country of southern Illinois, offering 1,101 acres of outdoor recreation centered around a 65-acre lake. The lake, completed in 1961, provides fishing opportunities and features a boat ramp for water access. Wooded picnic areas dot the landscape, and hiking trails pass through scenic forest stands. The campground offers diverse camping options to suit different styles. Fifty-one Class B/E campsites provide electric hookups for RVs and trailers, while 95 Class C primitive sites offer a more rustic experience. An equestrian campsite includes eight horse stalls for riders exploring the park's equestrian trails. Four Class D backcountry sites serve those seeking solitude, and a group camp area features its own shelter with stone fireplace, electricity, and tables. Restrooms are available throughout the campground. Some sites can be reserved through ExploreMoreIL. Beyond camping, the park supports hunting, cross-country skiing, geocaching, metal detecting, and dog training. The diverse terrain and mix of open areas and forest make it a versatile destination for outdoor recreation in the region.
