About

Forked Pine Campground hugs the lakeshore of Ashurst Lake in the Coconino National Forest, about 20 miles southeast of Flagstaff. The campground sits at 7,132 feet elevation in a picturesque stand of gnarly old juniper trees and pinyon pines, with the San Francisco Peaks providing a grand volcanic backdrop on the horizon. Ashurst Lake is notable for maintaining high water levels even during drought years. The lake is stocked with trout and offers excellent fishing opportunities. Windsurfing is popular when winds pick up. During spring waterfowl migration, birdwatchers can spot white-faced ibises, cinnamon teal, pintails, bald eagles, and osprey. Rustic gravel and two-track roads in the surrounding area provide opportunities for mountain biking and wildlife viewing in the juniper/ponderosa mixed forest. The campground has 24 sites with vault toilets and potable water. No hookups, showers, or dump station are available. Access requires driving through the adjacent Ashurst Lake Campground via a 4-mile maintained dirt road off Lake Mary Road.

Directions

Drive south 19 miles from Flagstaff on Lake Mary Road, then east about 4 miles on Forest Road 82E. Access requires driving through Ashurst Lake Campground to reach Forked Pine on the opposite side of the lake.
