About

Dairy Springs Campground is a comfortable facility tucked away in a scenic area of northern Arizona's Coconino National Forest, 24 miles southeast of Flagstaff. The campground features 30 campsites scattered through cool groves of ponderosa pine and white fir at an elevation of 7,170 feet. Half of the sites are reservable through Recreation.gov, while the other half operate on a first-come, first-served basis. Recreational interest typically centers around nearby Mormon Lake, Arizona's largest natural lake, which is seasonal and draws visitors for fishing and windsurfing when filled with water. Three hiking trails originate at Dairy Springs, leading to scenic overlooks of Mormon Lake and the surrounding landscape of prairies, forests, and volcanoes. Wildlife watching is exceptional in this area, with frequent sightings of hawks, northern harriers, ospreys, elk, and mule deer. The area's healthy wildlife population benefits from the adjacent Double Springs, which has a natural spring that runs to the surface. The small mountain resort village of Mormon Lake is conveniently close, offering horseback rides, mountain bike rentals, a country store, service station, and steakhouse. All campsites feature picnic tables and cooking grills, and the campground includes a campfire program amphitheater. Summers are characteristically sunny, warm, and dry with occasional afternoon thunderstorms. The facility enforces a 14-day stay limit within any consecutive 30-day period.

Directions

From Flagstaff, drive south 20 miles on Lake Mary Road to the intersection of Mormon Lake Road. Turn west on Mormon Lake Road and drive 3.5 miles to Montezuma Road. The Dairy Springs Campground entrance will be on your right.
