About
Ford's Well Recreation Area is located on the south side of Enid Lake in northern Mississippi's hill country. This historic site dates to the early 1900s when visitors came to drink or bathe in therapeutic waters from W. B. Ford's well, and it served as a way station along a major stagecoach route through North Mississippi. Today, the area is managed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and caters primarily to equestrian campers.
The campground offers 18 sites with 70-foot RV pads, full hookups (water, electric, and sewer), hitching rails, fire rings, grills, and picnic tables. An accessible shower house with flush toilets serves the campground. Additional amenities include a picnic shelter, playground, dump station, horse shower station, horse waste deposit bin, and mounting block. Five historic interpretive buildings - including the gazebo-covered well, log cabin, blacksmith shop, outhouse, and barn - are preserved on site.
The Spyglass Hill Trail provides 20.8 miles of moderately hilly equestrian terrain with sandstone outcrops and scenic lake views. The trail is also open to hiking and mountain biking. Rest stops along the trail feature picnic tables, grills, and benches. The campground is nestled among native pine and oak trees with wildlife including deer, squirrels, raccoons, and numerous bird species. Nearby recreation areas on Enid Lake offer boating, fishing, and designated swimming areas.
