About

Float Camp Picnic Area is a day-use recreation site nestled under a mature hardwood forest along the Current River in Mark Twain National Forest. Located only 150 feet from the crystal-clear waters, the facility provides excellent access for swimming, fishing, and enjoying the scenic river environment. The picnic area features an accessible group pavilion equipped with electricity, tables, and grills that can accommodate up to 75 people and requires reservations. Seven individual picnic sites are available on a first-come, first-served basis, each with tables and pedestal grills. Accessible vault toilets, pressurized drinking water, and trash collection are provided. The facility offers ample shade and views of the Current River. Recreational opportunities include wade, bank, and boat fishing for smallmouth bass and panfish in the Current River. Two trails originate from the picnic area: the half-mile Woodchuck Trail connects to the adjacent Float Camp Campground, and the 1.5-mile White Oak Trail loop provides a pleasant nature walk. The adjacent Float Camp Campground is available for overnight stays. Doniphan is four miles away and offers float trip outfitters, restaurants, and lodging.

Directions

From US Highway 160 in Doniphan, take Highway Y north for approximately 4 miles. Turn left on Forest Service Road 3210 and drive 0.25 miles to a fork. The right fork leads to the picnic area.
