About

Big Spring Campground sits in the heart of Ozark National Scenic Riverways, America's first national park area designated to protect a wild river system. Located just south of Van Buren, Missouri, the campground offers 123 sites with both electric and non-electric options, all positioned within easy walking distance of Big Spring and the Current River. The campground provides a variety of sunny and shaded sites, making it an ideal base camp for exploring the region year-round. The Current River flows past the campground, providing excellent opportunities for canoeing, kayaking, tubing, swimming, and fishing along over 130 miles of protected waterways. Big Spring itself produces an astounding 280 million gallons of water daily, making it the largest freshwater spring in North America and a spectacular natural attraction. Several hiking and horseback riding trails crisscross the area, including the Alley Overlook Trail, Chubb Hollow Trail, Ozark Trail, Cave Spring Trail, and Big Springs Trail. The campground features modern amenities including flush toilets, hot showers year-round, potable water during warmer months, a dump station, and trash collection. The surrounding Ozark forest showcases White oak and Shortleaf pine, Missouri's only native pine species, along with Sycamore, Cottonwood, and River birch along the waterways. Nearby attractions include Round Spring Cave with ranger-guided tours during summer, and the historic Alley Mill and Alley Spring. Canoe and kayak rentals and outfitters are available in the area.
