About

Big Tree Campground is a backcountry campground within Ozark National Scenic Riverways, featuring 7 riverside sites along the Current River. The campground includes 6 standard sites (up to 6 people, $10/night) and 1 cluster site (7-20 people, $25/night). All sites sit directly on the river, offering easy swimming access and scenic views of the Ozark ecosystem. As a backcountry campground, Big Tree is more primitive than developed campgrounds in the park. Amenities include picnic tables, fire rings, lantern posts, and vault toilets. There is no potable water, so campers must bring their own supply. RVs and trailers are permitted, but access requires navigating a half-mile gravel road that may be unsuitable for low-clearance vehicles. Reservations are required for all sites and must be made through Recreation.gov. Payment is handled via the Scan & Pay system on the recreation.gov mobile app. Campers should download the app and create an account before arrival, as cell service is limited in the area.

Directions

From Van Buren, MO, take Highway 60 south to Highway 103. Turn southeast onto 103 and follow for roughly 4 miles. Turn south onto Highway Z and follow for about 7.5 miles.
