About

Float Camp Campground occupies a shaded stretch of mature hardwood forest along the Current River in southern Missouri's Mark Twain National Forest. The campground offers 21 sites: 14 single non-electric sites, 4 single electric sites, and 3 double electric sites. The layout is open with little privacy screening between sites, but the trade-off is level, spacious camping with good opportunities to meet neighboring campers. Centrally located vault toilets and pressurized drinking water serve the area, though no dump station or showers are available. The Current River provides the primary draw, with swift-moving water perfect for float trips, canoeing, wade fishing, and swimming. The adjacent Float Camp Picnic Area sits just 150 feet from the river and offers a reservable group shelter accommodating up to 75 people. Two hiking trails originate nearby: the half-mile Woodchuck Trail connects the picnic area to the campground, while the 1.5-mile White Oak Trail loop starts from the picnic area parking lot. Access is straightforward from Doniphan via Highway Y north for approximately 4 miles, then left on Forest Road 3210 for a quarter mile to the fork. The left fork leads to the campground, the right to day use. Sites can accommodate RVs up to 40 feet on asphalt parking spurs.

Directions

From US Highway 160 in Doniphan, MO: Take Highway Y north for approximately 4 miles. Turn left on FR 3210 and drive 0.25 miles to a fork. The left fork leads to the campground, the right fork to day use.
