Float Camp

Closed — Closed for the season. The campground operates from April 1 through October 1. Reservations can be made up to 12 months in advance and must be made at least 3 days prior to arrival.

About

Float Camp Recreation Area provides opportunities for camping and day use along the cool, crystal clear waters of the Current River in Mark Twain National Forest. The campground offers 21 campsites including 14 non-electric sites, 4 single electric sites, and 3 double electric sites. This is a large, open campground with little privacy screening between campsites, offering level and roomy sites that encourage socializing with adjacent campers. The campground can accommodate RVs up to 40 feet. The recreation area features excellent river access for floating, fishing for smallmouth bass and panfish, and swimming. Two hiking trails connect the area: Woodchuck Trail is a half-mile trail connecting the campground with the picnic area, while White Oak Trail is a 1.5-mile loop originating at the Float Camp Picnic Area parking lot. The adjacent Float Camp Picnic Area, only 150 feet from the Current River, offers an accessible group shelter for up to 75 people, individual picnic sites, and additional amenities. The campground provides vault toilets, trash collection, fire rings, picnic tables, and lantern posts at each site. Pressurized drinking water is available from centrally located faucets, though individual water hookups are not available. No sewage hookups or dump stations are provided. The recreation area is located approximately 4.5 miles north of Doniphan, Missouri.

Directions

From US Highway 160 in Doniphan, MO, take Highway Y heading north for approximately 4 miles. Turn left on Forest Road 3210 and drive 0.25 miles to a fork in the road. The left fork takes you to the campground, the right fork to the day use area.
