About

Firehole Canyon Campground occupies a scenic position on the far northeastern shore of Flaming Gorge Reservoir, just 29 miles from Rock Springs, Wyoming. The campground lies within the Flaming Gorge National Recreation Area on the Ashley National Forest, set in a high desert environment at 6,300 feet elevation. Russian olive trees and sagebrush dot the landscape, though shade is minimal. The site offers striking views of the reservoir and surrounding red rock bluffs and formations. The 37 standard nonelectric campsites feature paved roads and parking spurs, with each site including a picnic table under a shared shade pavilion (cabana) and a campfire ring. Amenities include flush restrooms with single showers, potable water, trash collection, and an RV dump station. An adjacent boat ramp provides direct reservoir access, and a day-use swim beach is nearby. Boating, fishing, water skiing, swimming, and canoeing are the primary draws. Flaming Gorge Dam, which offers guided tours of the working hydroelectric plant and a visitor center with area history exhibits, is a popular nearby attraction.
