About
Falcon State Park sits on 572 acres at the southern end of the 84,000-acre Falcon International Reservoir along the Texas-Mexico border in Starr County. The park serves as a winter refuge for humans and wildlife alike, drawing anglers to one of South Texas's best freshwater fishing destinations and bird watchers seeking both common Southwest species and tropical varieties. The campground offers 98 campsites across three loops: Javelina Run with 31 full hookup pull-through sites (water, sewer, 30/50 amp), Mesquite Bend with 31 water and electric pull-through sites, and Black Bass Loop with 36 non-reservable water-only sites. All sites accommodate up to 8 people and feature covered picnic tables, fire rings, and nearby restrooms with showers. A dump station serves the campground. Anglers primarily catch largemouth bass and channel catfish, with white bass and crappie also present. The park includes a fish cleaning station and boat launch access to the reservoir. Beyond fishing, visitors enjoy 2.8 miles of hiking trails, water skiing, swimming, geocaching, and wildlife viewing along the lakeshore and brushy interior. A recreation hall with kitchen is available for gatherings or casual domino games. The mild climate makes this a particularly popular destination during fall and winter months.
