About

Resaca de la Palma State Park encompasses 1,200 acres of semi-tropical paradise along the Rio Grande in South Texas, making it the largest site of the World Birding Center. The park protects unique resaca wetlands, woodland, and savannah habitats that attract an exceptional diversity of birds, butterflies, and other wildlife. Visitors explore over eight miles of trails by foot, bicycle, or tram, as private vehicles are prohibited beyond the visitor center to maintain the park's tranquil atmosphere. Four observation decks overlook the resaca, providing prime spots for watching water birds, including Least Grebes, Green Herons, and Black-bellied Whistling-Ducks. The park offers guided tram tours, ranger programs, and bicycle rentals from the visitor center. With its proximity to Brownsville and South Padre Island, the park serves as an accessible refuge for nature enthusiasts seeking world-class birding and wildlife photography opportunities. The park operates primarily as a day-use facility with group sites available for gatherings. The visitor center houses a park store offering field guides, snacks, and equipment rentals including bicycles and binoculars. Educational programs for schools and groups can be arranged by contacting park staff.
