Mustang Island State Park

Located on Mustang Island between Corpus Christi and Port Aransas, this 3,954-acre state park provides direct Gulf of Mexico beach access and diverse coastal camping options. The 48 water/electric campsites feature 50-amp hookups, water connections, picnic tables, and shade shelters, situated about a third of a mile from the beach behind protective sand dunes. Full restrooms with hot water showers are located nearby. These sites do not have fire rings, though campfires are permitted on the beach. The 50 primitive beach camping sites are undesignated spots spread along 1.5 miles of beachfront, available first-come-first-served. Small beach campfires are allowed at these sites. Restrooms range from 50 yards to 1.5 miles away, with a beach bathhouse with full facilities near headquarters. Portable toilets are stationed along the two miles of beach. The park is home to nesting Kemp's ridley sea turtles from April through late July. Activities include swimming, fishing, paddling, and birding along the Mustang Island Loop of the Great Texas Coastal Birding Trail. The park frequently reaches capacity, especially during spring and summer, making reservations highly recommended for hookup sites.

Directions

From Corpus Christi, take State Highway 361 south across the JFK Causeway to Mustang Island. The park entrance is at 9394 State Highway 361, approximately 5 miles south of Port Aransas.
