About

F. D. Roosevelt State Park campground provides 115 campsites in Georgia's largest state park, spanning 10,874 acres of rolling mountains and forested terrain 80 miles southwest of Atlanta. The wooded campground sits near the edge of a small fishing lake, with some sites offering lake views while others are nestled among pines and hardwoods. The campground includes modern amenities with a bathhouse offering hot showers, a laundry facility, dump station, and grey water disposal stations at each loop. The park is a hiker's paradise with more than 40 miles of trails, including the popular 23-mile Pine Mountain Trail that winds through hardwood forests, over creeks, and past small waterfalls. Horseback riding enthusiasts can explore 28 miles of equestrian trails, with guided rides available through privately operated stables on-site. The seasonal Liberty Bell Swimming Pool, fed by cool springs, provides relief during warmer months. Fishing and boating are available in the park's two lakes, with boat rentals offered. Historic features throughout the park include structures built by the Civilian Conservation Corps during the Great Depression, such as stone cottages and the Liberty Bell Pool. Dowdell's Knob overlook, where President Franklin D. Roosevelt once picnicked and contemplated world affairs, features a life-size sculpture of the president. The park is located near Roosevelt's Little White House State Historic Site, where FDR sought treatment for polio in the naturally warm springs.
