About
Enchanted Rock State Natural Area protects a massive pink granite dome rising 425 feet above the surrounding Texas Hill Country. The park offers 35 walk-in campsites located 25 to 100 yards from the parking area, each equipped with a picnic table, outdoor grill, fire ring, and tent pad. Water faucets and a restroom building with showers serve the camping area. No RVs, pop-ups, or vehicle camping is permitted. For backcountry camping, 20 primitive sites split between Moss Lake and Walnut Springs require a rugged 1 to 3 mile hike. These sites feature composting toilets but no water; campers must use containerized fuel stoves as ash-producing fires are prohibited. A group camp at Buzzards Roost accommodates up to 50 people. The park is renowned for stargazing due to minimal light pollution and hosts regular astronomy programs. Rock climbing is permitted with a check-in at headquarters. Reservations are strongly recommended, especially during the busy season from September through May, as the park frequently reaches capacity and closes to additional visitors.
