About
Guadalupe River State Park showcases the natural beauty of the Texas Hill Country with four miles of Guadalupe River frontage. The park offers diverse recreational opportunities both on the water and on land. Visitors can swim, tube, fish, canoe, and kayak along the scenic river, including the 5-mile Guadalupe River State Park Paddling Trail. On land, the park features 13 miles of hiking and mountain biking trails ranging from easy to moderate difficulty, including the 2.86-mile Painted Bunting Trail and the River Overlook Trail with panoramic river views. The campground offers 85 water and electric campsites split between two areas: Turkey Sink (48 sites with 50-amp hookups) and Cedar Sage (37 sites with 30-amp hookups). Nine walk-in tent sites are located on a river terrace above the Guadalupe River, requiring campers to carry gear up to 100 yards. All sites include picnic tables, tent pads, and fire rings with grills, with restrooms and showers nearby. Generators are not allowed at any campsite. The park's Discovery Center offers educational exhibits with magnifying glasses, microscopes, and hands-on activities. Ranger-led programs cover birding, geocaching, stargazing, and guided tours of adjacent Honey Creek State Natural Area. The remote Bauer Unit provides a more primitive experience with challenging trails and spring seeps. Located just 30 miles from San Antonio and convenient to Boerne and New Braunfels, the park is open year-round with office hours from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. daily.
