About
Elko Campground sits at the edge of the Rocky Mountain Front in the Helena-Lewis and Clark National Forest, offering a quiet, primitive camping experience along the Teton River. With only 3 sites, this free campground provides a secluded setting for anglers targeting brook trout in the river. The campground serves as a launching point for several recreational opportunities. The Jones Creek trailhead is approximately half a mile east of the campground, offering hiking into the mountains. During winter months, the nearby Teton Pass area provides downhill skiing and snowmobiling. This is a primitive campground with vault toilets but no potable water. Campers must bring their own drinking water and be prepared for bear country, as mandatory food storage in approved containers is required. Bears frequent this area, and all food must be kept out of sight and removed from the area after eating.
Directions
From Choteau, go 6 miles north on US 89, then 26 miles northwest on County Road 144 (Teton Canyon Road).
