Elko Campground is a small, rustic three-site campground located along the Teton River in the Helena-Lewis and Clark National Forest, approximately 32 miles northwest of Choteau. The campground provides a quiet setting for anglers seeking brook trout in the river and serves as a base for exploring nearby trails and winter recreation areas. The Jones Creek trailhead is located about 0.5 miles east of the campground, offering hiking opportunities when conditions allow. During winter months, the nearby Teton Pass area provides downhill skiing and snowmobiling opportunities. This is a primitive campground with vault toilets and no potable water, requiring campers to bring their own water supply. Each site includes a picnic table and fire pit. The campground enforces mandatory food storage regulations due to bear activity in the area, and all food must be kept in approved containers and out of sight. The area operates as pack-it-in, pack-it-out, meaning campers must remove all trash. Maximum trailer length is 20 feet, making this best suited for smaller RVs or tent camping. The campground operates on a first-come, first-served basis with no reservation system and no camping fees. Access depends on road conditions, with County Road 144 (Teton Canyon Road) becoming impassable during winter months due to snow.
