About

Cave Mountain Campground is located 18 miles west of Choteau in the Helena-Lewis and Clark National Forest's Rocky Mountain Range. The campground sits at an elevation of 5,200 feet along the North Fork of the Teton River, with some sites overlooking the river. The scenic Rocky Mountain Front rises dramatically from the northern plains, providing a spectacular backdrop for camping. The campground offers 18 campsites with basic amenities including vault toilets and a hand pump for drinking water when operational. Fishing enthusiasts can access the North Fork of the Teton River, while hikers can explore nearby trails. The campground serves as a gateway to the Bob Marshall Wilderness and adjoins Nature Conservancy land known for its dinosaur fossils and badlands. This is bear country, and mandatory food storage in approved containers is required at all times. The campground operates on a first-come, first-served basis with no reservations. Access is via County Road 144, which can become impassable during winter and spring due to snow. The remote location provides a peaceful camping experience with light use and primitive facilities suitable for those seeking a backcountry feel.
