About
The Ear Mountain Cabin sits beneath the northeast slope of Ear Mountain along the Rocky Mountain Front Range, near the South Fork Teton River. Originally a Lewis and Clark National Forest administrative cabin, it was renovated in 2022 and converted to public rental use. The cabin sleeps up to nine people across two private bedrooms with built-in bunk beds plus a sofa sleeper in the living area. Amenities include electric lighting and outlets throughout, propane wall heaters in each room, a wood stove with viewing window, and a full-sized propane cooking range and oven. The kitchen comes pre-stocked with dishes, flatware, pots, pans, and a coffee pot. Potable water is available from an outside faucet. There are no restrooms on site and trash must be packed out. The cabin provides easy access to the Ear Mountain Wildlife Management Area, Headquarters Pass and Our Lake Trailheads, and numerous trails into the Bob Marshall Wilderness. Recreation opportunities include hiking, horseback riding, fishing, snowmobiling, skiing, and snowshoeing. Food, fuel, and supplies are available in Choteau, 23 miles away.
Directions
From Highway 89 about 5 miles north of Choteau, go west on Teton Canyon Road. Just before mile marker 17, turn left on Bellview Cutacross Road, cross the bridge, then turn right on South Fork Teton Road (just past a group of mailboxes) and continue approximately 4 miles. The cabin is on your left behind the gate.
